Run for heart
This Sunday was different from other Sundays, not a lazy and
lousy Sunday morning, but a Sunday full of energy and enthusiasm. 29th of September 2013 KMC and
MCODS along with other organizations and colleges had organized ninth WORLD
HEART DAY RUN. The World Heart Day run commenced at TMA Pai Convention Centre
via Mahatma Gandhi Road - PVS Circle - Bunts Hostel Circle and reached KMC
Hospital, Ambedkar Circle. Hundreds of Mangaloreans wearing uniform shirts,
holding placards, balloons and banners ran on the city’s streets on the
occasion of World Heart Day Run While U T Khader, minister for health and
family welfare was penciled in to flag off the run from TMA Pai Convention
Centre, it is the presence of athletes - Vijay Bharadjwaj, Shiny Abhraham and
Sahana Kumari gave this event the adrenalin rush . . Elected representatives
including Khader, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, J R Lobo, MLA; Dr M Mohan Alva,
chairman, Alva's Education Foundation; Amar Lal Daultani, and B K .Srivastav,
executive directors, Corporation Bank; P P Upadya, managing director, MRPL lended
value to the event by their presence at
the inaugural function prior to the run.
Through this run, participants stand to receive many prizes namely for the best corporate participation, best institution participation, best placard, best slogan shouting, and youngest and eldest participant who run/walk through this stretch. Everyone enthusiastically participated in the event, shouting slogans and heading towards the destination.
Master Anireekshith (4years) won the youngest participant award and Srinivas Puranik (86yrs) won the eldest participant award for their enthusiastic participation in this campaign proving that every young and elders alike enjoy participating and marking such noble campaigns on the occasion, prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions. Vikas College of Physiotherapy won the award for Best Institution Participation and Best Placard, Hindustan Unilever won the Best Corporate Participation award, Coast Guard of India won first prize for Best Slogan Writing among others.. The event gained its momentum when people of every age group, our past our present and our future all participated in it. A marathon is a string of moments, mixtures of events and emotions that we sample as we move along- truly said so.
